Party surrenders Sopore seat to PC, eyes allies in Kashmir | BJP's Mission 44 Plus hits roadblock | | Early Times Report srinagar, Nov 22: As the polling days are coming closer the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has realized that Kashmir is neither Haryana nor Maharashtra and if it has to be the part of the next government in Jammu and Kashmir then party would have to make compromises and leave a few seats for its allies who are likely to support the BJP after assembly elections are over. Recent developments have punctured the tall claims of the BJP leaders that party would field candidates from all the 87 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir and party winning some seats in the Valley would make it achieve its Mission 44 plus. In a significant move the BJP has not fielded any candidate from north Kashmir's volatile Sopore constituency, which would go to polls in the third phase on December 9. Sources told Early Times that BJP has not fielded the candidate from Sopore constituency and has left the field open for Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone. Ramesh Arora state vice-president BJP and incharge Kashmir affairs said that they have decided not to field any candidate in certain constituencies "As we may enter into post poll alliance with some parties," he added. Officials said that no BJP candidate has filed his nomination from Sopore constituency. "Out of 23 nominations, papers of seven independents were rejected and there are 16 candidates in fray from Sopore now," the officials added. There are many areas in north Kashmir from where BJP has not fielded its candidates. "After Sajad Gani Lone met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi the BJP leaders were informed that they should leave north Kashmir alone and field only a few candidates for the sake of presence," sources said. Pertinently, Early Times was the first newspaper in JK to report that BJP has left the north Kashmir for the Peoples Conference and both the parties have entered into a 'secret pact.' An analyst while talking to Early Times said that BJP leaders have realized that their party getting 44 plus seats in the forthcoming assembly elections is next to impossible. "In principle they have accepted if they have to form the next government alliance is must. Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone is their first bet and they want to see how many seats his party would be able to win in north Kashmir." Sources said that BJP has kept its options open. "Speculations are rife that National Conference leadership has got it conveyed to the BJP top brass that it can lend outside support to the party to keep Congress and PDP at bay," they claimed. The political developments which are taking place in Jammu and Kashmir have made one thing clear that BJP is not in driver's seat in the state and is relying heavily on who could be its future allies. It's Mission 44 plus is also turning out to be a mere illusion as harsh realities of JK politics are staring at party's face. The hype which the party created in the initial days is slowly losing its sheen. Inability of the BJP candidates to organize big rallies and hold road shows has proved that party has no mass following in the Valley. The recent floods and Centre's cold response to rehabilitate the flood victims has gone against the party. There are many reasons which are making the people believe that if BJP has to form the next government in the state it would need the support of the Valley based parties as its Mission 44 plus is bound to end up in a fiasco. |
