Rahul makes honest confession: Omar was lethargic and coalition a failure! | System of coalition Govt has not proved good for J&K people | | Syed Tahir Bukhari Early Times Report KUPWARA, Nov 25: Calling Chief Minister Omar Abdullah 'lethargic', Congress vice- president, Rahul Gandhi today confessed that Congress-NC coalition government was a failure in J&K and did not fulfill the people's aspirations. Addressing an election rally at Lolab in Kupwara here, he appealed to the people to vote for Congress candidates so that the party could form its own government to mitigate their sufferings. "The coalition government has failed to deliver in Jammu and Kashmir and Omar failed to deliver," he asserted. Rahul, who was accompanied by Ambika Soni and PCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz, was at Lolab to campaign for Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir, Congress candidate from Lolab assembly constituency. Rahul said, "Coalition system of government has not proved good for the people of Jammu and Kashmir." "The biggest achievement of the Congress government in New Delhi was to create an atmosphere of peace in J&K," he said and criticized Narendra Modi, saying that instead of connecting people, the Prime Minister was on path of dividing people all over India. Expressing confidence about success in J&K elections, Rahul said Congress has "contributed a lot in development of the state. I am sure people will choose our candidates and Congress will form the next government in the state." Highlighting some major steps taken by UPA government for development of Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul said Congress during its tenure always believed in equitable development of all three regions of the state viz. Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He appealed people of Kupwara, especially Lolab area to vote for the Congress candidate Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir so that the party can form a strong government on its own. He said, "Congress was serious to implement its program of connectivity in J&K which according to him helped the people of Kashmir to reach the markets outside the state. He also blamed NC for "being slow in carrying forward developmental projects sanctioned by UPA for the state." He accused Omar government of failing on all fronts. "Last government failed to deliver it was lethargic and did not fulfill the people's aspirations." He said the biggest achievement of the Congress government in New Delhi was to create an atmosphere of peace in J&K. Rahul said, "The UPA government worked for the poor but what has the present government done? Let you people support the Congress party, and you will see yourself that what we do in future." Congress supporters believe that Rahul's campaigning will boost the morale of workers and make the voters aware about the achievements of Congress government at Centre and state. It is pertinent to mention here that Rahul has come to the state for the first time during the ongoing state polls. Unlike the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year, the top brass of the Congress has launched a massive campaign in the state, particularly in the Valley to persuade the voters. Earlier, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had addressed her maiden election rally at Bandipora on Nov 21. |
