Sonia, Rahul break Omar's myth; Cong eyeing PDP for power | Politics : Art Of Possibilities | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 26: A few days after All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Sonia Gandhi trained her guns at National Conference and accused it of failing to implement the initiatives of the UPA government in Jammu and Kashmir, the "close friend" of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi toed his mother's line and termed Omar's government as lethargic. Sonia and Rahul shifting entire blame on Omar for the coalition's failure in Jammu and Kashmir has vindicated the stand of the critics who have been claiming that NC-Congress coalition was an "unholy alliance" and it failed to serve the people. Omar Abdullah is on record saying that his candidature to the top post was opposed by the most Congress leaders, including the former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, but it was due to Sonia's blessings and his friendship with Rahul that he got a chance to rule Jammu and Kashmir. Whenever, NC-Cong ties hit the low during the past six years Omar got away with it and everyone was made to believe that he enjoys the "Ashirwad" of the Congress high command. NC-Congress candidates biting dust in the last Parliamentary elections gave a chance to state Congress leaders to convey it to the party high command that joining hands with NC has spelled doom for them and if the alliance continues Congress would become a history in Jammu and Kashmir. However, critics maintain that state Congress leaders in order to cover their "misdeeds' shifted the entire blame on Omar Abdullah and his party. They ignored the stark reality that all the plum ministries were held by Congress and they were equal partners in the coalition. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Congress is an opportunistic party. Soon after the parliamentary election results were declared Congress leaders realized that NC will have to sit in the opposition and if they have to share power for next six years then they should part ways and somehow rope in PDP, whom Congress ditched in 2008." Pertinently, Congress party has been sharing power in the state for the past 12 years. From 2002 to 2008 it shared power with PDP and from 2008 onwards party shared power with NC. The analyst said that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi seem to have woken up from deep slumber after six years and have realized that Omar Abdullah government was incompetent. "Why it took them six years to judge the performance of its ally? People in Jammu and Kashmir since 2009 have been raising hue and cry about Omar being a failure. So many people are on record saying that Omar lacks acumen to head the state," he added. Critics believe that Congress distancing itself from the National Conference at the last moment is not going to help its cause. "State Congress leaders are the equal partners in the crime. Recent speeches of Sonia and Rahul were tailor made as Congress yes men in the state have made the party top brass believe that if it fails to take anti-NC stand then Congress leaders don't have any chance of even winning a few seats," said a critic. Sonia breaking her silence after six years and speaking openly against Omar, and Rahul calling his government "lethargic" have broken Omar's myth as he (Omar) has been claiming that they are all part of the family. |
