PPI drive launched across valley

SRINAGAR, Feb 22: The Pulse Polio Immunization Programme (PPI) was launched by the Deputy Commissioners of various districts across the valley.
In Anantnag district- 159614 children in the age group of 0-5 years were administered pulse polio drop for which the health department in collaboration with ICDS and Education department had deployed 2540 employees on Pulse Polio duty besides, 635 Pulse Polio Booths and 40 vaccine collection centres were set up. The programme was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, Tasaduq Jeelani at MCH Sheerbagh.
In Pulwama district- 79454 children in the age group of 0-5 years were administered Pulse Polio drops for which 1792 workers of Health department were deployed at 448 Pulse Polio Centres in the district. Deputy Commissioner, Neeraj Kumar inaugurated the programme at old district hospital.
In Shopian district-As many as 42520 children between the age group of 0 to 5 years were administered pulse polio drops. In this regard 213 pulse polio booths were set up for the purpose. Deputy Commissioner, Bashir Ahmed Bhat inaugurated the programme at district hospital.
In Budgam- 99,566 children upto 5 years age group were covered under Pulse Polio Immunization (PPI) Programme and for this purpose 2252 health workers were deployed at 610 booths in 10 Medical Blocks. Deputy Commissioner, Mir Altaf Ahmed launched the programme by administering the first polio dose to a new born.
In Kulgam- 91,546 children between the age group of 0 to 5 years were administered the pulse polio drops. In this regard 505 pulse polio booths were set up and 2020 employees were deployed for the purpose. Deputy Commissioner, Nissar Hussain Wani launched the programme at district hospital.
In Kupwara- 720 Pulse Polio Immunization Centres have been setup to cover 1,34,000 children in the age group of 0-5 years under the 2nd phase of National Pulse Polio Programme for which 2900 employees of health department were deployed. Deputy Commissioner, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan kicked off the programme by administering the polio drops at district hospital.
