| BJP's maiden Railway Budget promises faster Rail Network for JK | | Makes no mention of tallest rail bridge | | Javaid Naikoo

Srinagar, Feb 26: Railway Minister of Narendra Modi Led Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government promised faster railway network for Jammu and Kashmir in his maiden railway budget today, however did not mention completion of under construction tallest railway bridge of the world.
While producing his 2015-2016 rail budget of the country, Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu said that there would be faster rail network growth in Jammu and Kashmir and connectivity provided to all the Northeastern states as well.
"Indian Railways is committed for faster rail network in Jammu and Kashmir. The rail connectivity between Jammu region and the Kashmir valley through the Banihal tunnel provides all-weather connectivity with the rest of the country." He said in budget address.
He said that commissioning of Udhampur-Katra was like a dream come true for millions of pilgrims and added that likewise Jammu and Kashmir Railways is committed to provide rail connectivity to all the Northeastern States.
However railway Minister did not mentioned further details about railway system of Jammu and Kashmir like completion of under construction tallest railway bridge of the world in Jammu and Kashmir and increase in number trains from Banihal to Qazigund and Baramulla of North Kashmir.
In 2012 then UPA Government at centre cleared a proposal to earmark Rs190bn ($3.5bn) of additional funds for the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail project, which is believed to link the Kashmir valley to the rest of the country.
The rail line of Jammu and Kashmir is destined to have the tallest rail bridge of the world on its way named as Chenab Bridge which is under-construction located between Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The 1,315m-long bridge is being built at a height of 359m and once it is completed it will be the tallest rail bridge in the world and the project is expected to be finished by March 2016 and is expected to have a lifespan of 120 years.
The rail line has India's longest transportation railway tunnel measuring 11.2km long and tunnel link, which is the only broad gauge mountain railway in India, stretches through the Pir Panjal mountain range between Quazigund and Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir and according to officials accounts tunnel section is a part of the 202km Udhampur - Srinagar - Baramulla rail link project undertaken by the Northern Railways.
Pertinently BJP today produced its maiden railway budget and promised that there will be 'No hike in passenger fares, tickets would be made available within 5 minutes of time, No paper work for TTEs, welcoming bio-tiolets, facility to book rail meal from food chain online, CCTV watchdog facility, High frequencies of trains, Address of grievances through mobile application, preference for Senior Citizens and Railways to support 'Make in India' in a way to introduce 9 speed hi speed corridors and high speed trains to make Railways more digitalized, speedier and eco-friendly.
Pertinently Ladakh division of Jammu and Kashmir is yet to come under rail network connectivity of Jammu and Kashmir which remains cut off for five to six months annually due to heavy snowfall in the region. |
