Forest deptt speeds drive against illegal Saw Mills, seizes machinery 9 Saw Mills seized so far 2/26/2015 11:24:26 PM Arun Trisal Early Times Report KATHUA, Feb 26: In its aim to speed up the drive against illegal Saw mills running in Kathua Forest Division without valid license, a team of Forest department continued action against offenders on third consecutive day. A team of Forest Department consisting Vinay Khajuria, Range Officer, Kathua, Pankaj Khajuria, Block Officer, HQ, Kathua, and other Forest Officers under the overall supervision of Vijay Kr. Verma, SFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Kathua carried out the drive.During the surprise visit, it was observed that saw mills including M/s Okay Industries, Play Wood Manufacturer, M/S Neelam Kohli Bat Factory and M/S Janak Raj Saw Mill, Jakhwar were illegally functioning as they have no valid license which is gross violation of SRO 103 of 2012 Dated: 26-03-2012. During the course of operation, saw mills were dismantled and machinery were seized and brought at Forest Complex, Kathua. The case has been registered u/s 6(J), and confiscation proceedings has been initiated under section 26 of J&K Forest Act 1987 (Samvat) against the owners of saw mills who were running these saw mills illegally. DFO Kathua Vijay K. Verma briefed that illegal activities shall not be tolerated at any cost by the Forest Department and action warranted under law shall be taken against the offenders in future too. While interacting with Early Times, BM Sharma, Conservator Forests Department said that the Saw Mill owners openly violated Sec 45 & 45 A of J&K Forest Act and SRO 103 that diversified Saw mills into two categories. These illegal Saw Mills owners violated Art 45, 45 A, SRO 103 and Sec 6 (J) of JK Forest Act. There is provision of 2 years prison in addition to Rs 6000 as fine. Sharma said the department has prepared a list of other remaining illegal running Saw Mills and ensured to continue the drive in days to come.
