Kishtwar, Feb 26: Incessant rainfall during the past few days have inundated this frontier district in Jammu region as most of the drains are blocked and ongoing strike of Municipal Committee employees, who are demanding the release of their pending salaries, has added to the mess.
As per the details available with "Early times", the causal laborers working in Municipal Committee Kishtwar are on strike for past three days and today also they staged a massive protest against the department's failure to release their salary, which they said has been withheld for the past seven months.
The angry employees who assembled at MC Office Kishtwar informed "Early times" that despite repeated assurances by the department and government from time to time, their salaries are still pending. They said that regular employees of the department are also without salary for past three months. "Out of 37 MCs falling in Jammu province, the salary of only Kishtwar MC is pending--- can anyone tell us why we are facing step motherly treatment," said an angry employee.
He said that they also approached the Director Housing and Urban Development Department Jammu for release of salaries and added that director distanced himself and put the ball in the court of Principal Secretary Finance with the excuse that the money sanctioned on account of salary for Kishtwar Municipal Committee was withheld by the Finance department. They said that in case department fails to release their salary, they would intensify their agitation.
Meanwhile locals informed that the water entered inside their houses as the drainage system got badly affected due to blockade at many places. The shopkeepers also complained that the rain water entered into their shops, besides it also badly affected the business as people remain confined to inside their homes due to water logging at many places.
People appealed the government to take immediate steps for releasing the pending salary of MC Kishtwar employees so that they resume their duty once again.
