Backdoor appointments in LA

Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 23: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is said to have taken cognizance of the issue of backdoor appointments made in Legislative Assembly during the past six years and some concrete action in the matter is on cards after the current Budget session gets over. Besides cancelling all 89 appointments against various posts through backdoor the government is likely to order fresh appointments and take action against those at the helm and expose the then political bosses at the behest of whom most of the appointments were made.
Sources said the Chief Minister has taken strong notice of the backdoor appointments made in the Legislative Assembly which despite having been reported a number of times have remained untouched by the State Vigilance Organisation as well as other anti graft agencies. The matter was recently taken up by some MLAs also during their meeting with the Chief Minister, sources said adding that the Principal Secretary in CM's office has been given specific directions to follow the matter and get facts to fore for justified action.
Sources further said what has given fillip to the matter is the action initiated by the government recently in cancelling all such appointments in all departments which have made in violation of set norms and procedures for recruitments. As the recent order by government has stirred up and shook every department where such appointments have been made in the bulk, the government is contemplating action instead of maintaining silence into the matter of huge number of appointments, as many as 89 candidates having been accommodated on account of political pressures and nepotism , sources said adding that pre occupation with Legislative proceedings is delaying the action and most likely the pages will turn for meaningful action after the budget session.
The Speaker Kavinder Gupta's meeting with Chief Minister a day back has given credence to the reports that something concrete with respect to a neat and transparent functioning of Assembly Secretariat is what the government has desired. Pertinently, apart from discussing other related matters, the Speaker is understood to have discussed the issues pertaining to Legislative Assembly Secretariat. The matter is already creating ripples in the corridors of Assembly Secretariat particularly in the backdrop of government's will to clean the rot with respect to nepotism and political whims having ruled in making appointments at all levels in almost all departments.
