| KPs remind BJP its commitment on Temple Bill | | Encroachment of temples in Valley unabated | |

srinagar, Mar 23: Asking state BJP leadership to fulfill its promises, Kashmiri Pandits today demanded that the Temples and Shrines Bill be passed during the ongoing Legislative Assembly session and warned that further delay in the process would only aggravate problems for the KP community.
According to the management committee of different temples and shrines in Kashmir functioning as 'Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust' , the long pending temples and shrine bill be passed at the earliest as Land Mafia was persistently usurping the land of various Hindu shrines in the valley.
"BJP leaders including their state secretary Ashok Kaul, Dr Jitendra Singh should now fulfill promises which they made with us when they were not in power, I hope there is no opposition to the Bill from any political party in House this time,so it is right time to get the bill passed," said Dr Arjan Nath, Chairman Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust. "When BJP leadership opposed passing of Bill in the House, they (Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust') met them in Jammu and asked for reasons of opposing Bill and added that all the BJP leaders that time apologized and said that they were not aware about the purpose of Bill. Now when BJP is in power itself and no other political party of the state opposed the Bill why is government mum on long pending Temples and Shrines Bill, which is long pending demand of Kashmiri Pandits" he added.
During previous National-conference and Congress Government state Assembly sent the bill for management of Hindu shrines and temples to the joint select committee after Jammu based MLAs opposed the bill in its present form and then also opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which had pressed for voting on the bill staged walkout from the House and accused the government of not being serious on passing the bill.
The bill, which was tabled in 2009, was earlier referred to a select committee which however could not reach a consensus on it in its present form.
Pertinently according to details available with Early Times previously it was BJP's Ashok Khajuria and Harshdev Singh of Panthers Party who opposed the move of passing Bill despite nod of passing Bill from all other political parties and independent politicians of the state. Kashmiri Pandits demand that if Government is not serious then why did they brought the bill into the House last time and insulted the sentiments of the minority community and added that few politicians for their petty personal gains are only opposing the Bill in the House, despite the fact most of the political parties and Politicians are in favour of passing the Bill as they see it an positive move to safeguard the remaining Religious places of Kashmiri pandits in their original shape. Kashmiri Pandits appealed to the Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayed to intervene in the matter address their long pending demand. |
