Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 23: It might sound strange but is a fact that a person who filed a case against University of Jammu holds the charge of the varsity's legal cell and two other posts.
The Special secretary to vice-chancellor JU, Jai Kumar Sharma, who has filed petition against JU over interview for the post of Director College Development Council (CDC) has been holding key posts including SS VC, Manager Guest House and in-charge Legal Cell of the University as well.
"He approached the court against JU for not calling him in an interview for the post of director CDC, as the selection committee found him ineligible and recommended name of Prof Meenakshi Kilam suggesting that 'she (Prof Kilam) was not eligible but most suitable' for that post", sources said, adding that Sharma filled a case against the recommendation of the selection committee during Prof Varun Shahni's tenure.
They said that as Prof MPS Ishar took charge as VC JU, Jai Kumar's file was sent to law department for consideration. "Soon after holding charge of legal cell Jai Kumar with collusion of the then VC forwarded his case to state law department", sources informed, adding that the then law secretary manipulated the case and made him eligible to appear in interview for the post of director CDC. "In the meantime, another contender Prof Sunil Mahajan challenged Jai Kumar's eligibility in court of law. The case is still going on", they added.
Jai Kumar had become trustworthy lieutenant to Prof Ishar and secured two additional charges vis Manager Guest House and in-charge legal cell. "Jai Kumar holding the charge of legal cell will definitely help him, "sources said and added that incumbent VC Prof RD Sharma is repeating same mistake committed by Prof Ishar.
There is a post of legal officer (Assistant Registrar Legal) and to fill the post application from illegible candidates were also sought, but due to unknown reasons the process was suspended. "Around 300 candidates had applied for the post but impressed with Jai Kumar's loyalty, the then VC had not conducted interview," sources added.
Despite repeated attempts JU Vice-chancellor Prof RD Sharma, did not pick up the phone. He did not even reply to the repeated SMSs sent to him to seek his comments over the issue.
