India, China border issue not insurmountable: State media

BEIJING, Mar 23: As India and China on Monday held fresh border talks, official media here struck a positive note, saying with both sides agreeing to tap the vast potential of bilateral cooperation, a resolution to the vexed issue is not an "insurmountable barrier" for regional stability.
The commentary by state-run Xinhua news agency - that came as Special Representatives of the two sides, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi, held talks in New Delhi - also said that both the nations are "capable of keeping the disputes under control" and that progress has been made despite difficulties.
"With China and India's resolution to tap into the vast potential of bilateral cooperation, border disputes will not become an insurmountable barrier for securing the overall stability in the region, as both nations are capable of keeping the disputes under control," it said.
Some of the world's highest mountains lie between China and India, but the connection between the two ancient civilisations have "never been severed by their height".
"As the Himalayas has not stop the ancient Chinese and Indians from knowing and learning from each other, existing border disputes between the two great nations will not become an insurmountable barrier to the improvement of bilateral relations," the commentary said.
