Early Times Report

Jammu, June 27: The construction works of roads and bridges under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme are being executed at a snail’s pace in the state of Jammu and Kashmir which could be well gauged from the fact that against approved 1984 works, only 1139 works have been completed while the remaining 845 works are yet to be taken up.
Details regarding the weak implementation of the centrally sponsored schemes are available in the website of Department of Rural Development, Government of India. As per the details, the physical progress of works (Roads and bridges) with balance of 845 works is up to 31.03.2015.
Much to the amazement is the fact that some works approved in Phase-11 (2001-02), Phase-111 (2004-05), Phase-IV (2006-07), Phase-V (2007-08), Phase-VI (2008-09), Phase-VII (2010-11), Phase-VIII (2012-13) of the PMGSY are also uncompleted. As per the report, in the Phase-II, a total of 66 works were approved to be completed out of which 54 works are complete whereas 12 is the balance.
In the Phase-III, 63 numbers of works were taken up out of which 55 works are complete as on 31.03.2015 and 8 is the balance. In the Phase-IV, 104 works were taken up of which 100 are completed, and 4 number of works are yet to be taken up.
Similarly, 140 works were taken up in the Phase-V, of which 88 were completed and 52 is the balance. In Phase VI, 431 works were approved against which the completed works are 371 with 60 as balance.
486 works were approved in the Phase-VII out of which 303 works are shown as completed with 183 as the balance. In the VIII phase, 124 works were taken up for construction with 12 completed and 112 as the balance of works.
Government of India has also directed the State Road and Rural Development Agency (SRRDA) to take urgent steps to send the completion plan indicating the probable time frame for completion of these road works.
