NC must introspect before taking on Lone

Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 27: Various nationalist parties have taken a pot shot on former Chief Minister and working president National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah for criticising Peoples Conference Chief Sajjad Gani Lone for joining coalition in the State and supporting RSS agenda.
According to sources the leaders of these parties while taking serious exception to Omar Abdullah's statement said instead of giving sermons to Peoples Conference (PC), the NC leader should give sermons to his father who aligned with NDA in 1998 to give a berth to Omar Abdullah in Union Council of Ministers.
Sources said if Mr Abdullah had courage he should have not joined the NDA at that time by taking a bold stand. But when the NC did not find any problem in joining the NDA government led by the BJP stalwart Atal Behari Vajpayee what problem Mr Abdullah has if PC or any other Kashmir based Party joins coalition with BJP.
Omar Abdullah was a Union Minster in Vajpayee led government for about five years and at that time he defended every action of BJP which is a political wing of RSS. If Omar Abdullah had not committed any crime then what fault Mr. Lone has done in joining the PDP-BJP coalition Government, said a senior political analyst. He said that Omar Abdullah was hoodwinking the public opinion by making such irresponsible statements and giving a piece of advice to PC leader while he has himself tasted the power as member of BJP coalition at Centre.
The leaders of these political parties have said that Omar Abdullah has no moral right in contradicting or opposing the PC leader in joining coalition as his Party sided any national party which suited its interests from time to time.
Sources said after the toppling of NC Government in 1984, Dr Abdullah joined hands with all national opposition parties including the BJP to take on Congress. An opposition conclave was held in Stringer to brow beat Congress at that time. It was the same NC which termed Congress as insects of gutter in 1977 elections and after that joined hands with it in 1987 to come to power. The NC launched a State wide campaign against Congress after the ouster of Dr Abdullah Government in 1984 and installation of GM Shah led Government in the State for complete three years. It suddenly did a volt face and declared truce with Congress to come to power in the State later, sources added.
Another political analyst while commenting on Omar's statement, said the greatest weakness for the NC is that it can't remain without power nor can it digest the verdict of people. Had the Party shown a sincere approach and allowed the democracy to flourish in the Valley and refrained from committing atrocities on its political opponents after Assembly poll in 1987 the situation would have been altogether different in Valley, he added.
He said instead of learning a lesson NC continues to play its dubious political game in the State which is harmful to the interests of the people as such a mischievous campaign of the Party is helping the detractors of the nation.
He while ridiculing the Omar Abdullah's statement said NC did not hesitate in supporting the Janata Dal Government led by Deve Gouda and I K Goral at Delhi from 1996 to 1998 and later shifting loyalty to BJP led Government in 1998 to install Omar Abdullah s Union Minister. From 1998 to 2002 NC leaders praised every action of BJP but after NDA refused to toe NC 's line in J&K during 2002 Assembly poll and instead conducted free and fair poll in the State that paved the way for installation of PDP-Congress coalition the relations between NC and BJP became sour and NC started dubbing BJP as a communal organization saying it has deep roots in RSS. He said the NC leadership can go to any extent in making statements which suits its political interests from time to time. If BJP dances to the tune of NC leadership and backs its all wrongs, then RSS is no problem for NC. Then the right Wing Party is as secular as NC itself. But if the NC leadership comes to know that BJP is not going to dance to its tune and it will not allow NC to usurp the democracy, then BJP is surely a communal party and political parties allying with it are working on the directions of RSS, he added.
