Early Times Report

Bani/ Machhedi, June 27: Landscape hub Machhedi, 40 km away from here, Billawar is prior choice of local tourists to spend holidays and weekends but lack of restaurants and accommodation fades up its potentiality. Kings and Princes of Sikh & Dogra rulers used to visit Machhedi during holidays.
To mitigate the accommodation problems, State Forest Department constructed a guest house before Independence but no renovation work has been done since its inauguration by the Dogra rulers.
Depilated condition of the guest house has turned it a safe place for drunkards and gamblers.
Ignorance of the JK Forest department squandered heritage property and building has been turned into deteriorating condition like other buildings of Forest department in Billawar and Kathua Forest division.
The department collects huge amount selling of Timbers and other Forest products but nothing has been used to renovate several deteriorating buildings. Forest Minister Bali Bhagat, who tries to vacate Forest lands from encroachers, must work to streamline the system in JK Forest department.
Abdul Majid, a local said no renovation work has been done since inauguration of the Forest Guest House Machhedi that turns into soft place for drunkards and gamblers. He alleged on JK Forest department for not deploying Chowkidar or another employee to look after the building. He said there is no sanitary facility, pane of window & doors are broken down and roof in worse condition.
When approached to Sat Paul, DFO Billawar Forest Division, he said he personally reviewed the position wherein old building needs immediate renovation. He said Division tries to make a proposal for new building for Guest house in Machhedi which would be hopefully sanctioned within months to facilitate and promote the tourists in remotest area.
