Jammu, June 27: Workers of the Dogra Front and Shiv Sena under the leadership of Mr. Ashok Gupta took out a procession from Jewel Chowk to BC road against the power cuts The protestors were carrying hand fans, electrical fans and lamps signifying that when the people are paying their charges for the electricity then why there is no electricity available to the people in this scorching heat. Addressing the protesters, Ashok Gupta stated that 1,570 transformers are damaged and the PDD department is in a drought for funds as the state government is not allocating the funds to the department due to which the damaged transformers cannot be repaired. About Rs 5 crores and 30 lakhs is the balance amount of the transformers towards the vendors by the PDD and they have stopped the repairing of the transformers till their remaining balance is reimbursed. Since there is no electricity, the PHE Department is not able to supply water to the people.
"In these days, when the temperature is 44 to 45 degrees, only electricity and drinking water can provide some relief from scorching heat but unfortunately both these commodities have gone out of the reach of a common citizen, " he stated and adding it is the duty of elected government to ensure that people are not made to suffer but in Jammu and Kashmir the government has least concern for the people and its Ministers are enjoying their summers in Kashmir and do not have any feeling for the helpless people of Jammu. Among others who were present at the time of protest included Akhnoor belt incharge Vickoo, Birbal, Shano Devi, Geeta, Krishna, Suresh, Deepu, Kala, Gyanoo, Kirpal and various others were present. |
