LAHDC polls likely to throw surprises, cause upsets
8/1/2015 12:04:11 AM
Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, July 31: With major political parties undecided on their relation with their respective coalition partners, the Wet Desert may see them contesting the LAHDC polls alone.
The polls for 26 seats are going to be held in October. Four seats are filled by the state government.
The Congress runs the incumbent LAHDC and expects a landslide victory in the forthcoming polls.
The Congress party intends to contest all the seats, according to Rigxin Jora. This reveals the party's intentions of contesting the polls alone.
The National Conference which formed the government after 2008 polls with Congress support has yet to take a decision on contesting the polls jointly with Congress. Reports from the Cold desert suggest that the NC may go to polls alone as local issues are going to play a vital role in the elections.
However, political experts believe that the NC and Congress will go together. According to them, NC supported Congress in Kargil and allowed it to run the Council.
Similarly the PDP has not taken a decision on the vital issue as yet. The party spokesman, Mehboob Beg said the party high command will take a decision on the issue.
The BJP leader Cherang DurBJP-PDP coalition will like to emerge winner by defeating Congress and the NC. This indicates the BJP does not intend to go alone to the polarised electorate.
Electioneering has also begun and the party leaders have promised to take up the issue of union territory Status for Ladakh with the union government.
Experts opine that the forthcoming elections are expected to throw some surprises and also cause some upsets.
