| An open Letter to Shri Amit Shah Ji, BJP national president | | |
Respected Shri Amit Shah ji
I am once again choosing to write to you this open letter in the hope that your goodself may realize the gravity of the situation in which the BJP J&K unit finds itself at this time and take measures in the interests of the party and the nation.
You must have read my earlier letter Dated April, 16, 2015. I had earnestly appealed to you to reconsider the decision of joining the PDP as an alliance partner in the new government in the sensitive state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Technically I still am the advisor of the President of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, but honestly speaking I have stopped advising him well before I wrote to you on April 16, 2015. So this letter of mine is addressed to you as a common member of BJP who still holds the interests of the BJP in the state to his heart.
The situation since has further deteriorated for the BJP in the state and it would not be any exaggeration to say that the popularity of BJP in Jammu province has dipped to the lowest levels since it started functioning in the state. The reason for the unprecedented anger and hatred against BJP in the Jammu province has to be seen in a broader context of why BJP was given a massive mandate by the people of Jammu rather than its bungling on the AIIMS issue.
Failure to declare establishment of AIIMS in Jammu as promised by the party surely served as the critical catalyst but people of Jammu see this failure as a part of a bigger ideological betrayal on which the party seems to have embarked upon. No right thinking person in the state thinks or believes that your alliance with PDP in the state is not a political alliance. Your party leaders handling the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir have tried in vain to convince the people in the state and particularly in Jammu region that your alliance with the PDP is merely a "governance alliance" or a "developmental alliance". They would have believed you had the BJP not inked the whole arrangement in the form of a joint document of understanding with the PDP named as Agenda of Alliance. Believe me this document is now being described here commonly as "Agenda of Betrayal" and "a new charter of bondage"'. Agenda of Alliance, even on a cursory glance, appears to be an agenda of political compromise on almost everything for which the BJP was voted for by the people of Jammu. It is, in fact, a compromise on almost every ideological issue for which the BJP has been recognized so for.
You yourself were at least honest in admitting that the BJP has entered into this alliance for a definite political purpose and will not come out of the government till a solution of the problem of Jammu and Kashmir is found out. Even the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji also hinted that the alliance with the PDP was for a bigger purpose. So when your colleagues in party, time and again, repeat that the BJP has entered into an alliance with the PDP which is neither political nor ideological, they brazenly lie and people with commonsense understand it in no time. Please go through your own document of Agenda of Alliance and you will realize instantaneously that every line which has been written in that document is a loaded political statement and you have put it in writing many times in it that political settlement in J&K carries precedence over the economic development of the state.
I hope you are aware what Shri Ram Madhav has been saying about the BJP-PDP alliance in the state from time to time. The contradictions in his explanations are so numerous that anybody with political commonsense will be dumbfounded. But the most important thing which he said in an interview while explaining the reasons for the type of alliance formed by the BJP with the PDP was that the alliance was made to "break jinx of untouchability". Do you understand the implications of such a statement? Do you understand how long this admission will haunt the BJP in its ideological battle with the fake secular Congress, the fake secular Indian Left and similar other fake secular parties?
I must admit that this admission provided answers to the abject surrenders which the BJP made while forming this alliance. Everybody could easily understand that the whole mandate of 25-28 MLAs was handed over to Mufti on a plate to get a secular certificate. To be frank after reading the Agenda of Alliance I realized that there was now an impending danger of using the mandate as a captured constituency to justify compromises with Pakistan. Everybody here suddenly realized the reasons why BJP abandoned first the Kashmiri Hindus and then the POJK refugees after Shri Ram Madhav spoke these words. Through this alliance with PDP, we can easily see that the BJP has been hijacked in a direction which will facilitate the creation of "Greater Muslim Kashmir" eventually wrecking the integrity and sovereignty of the nation. I earnestly appeal to you to see this dangerous drift and stop the party from committing a suicide.
You must be aware that no less persons than the present Finance Minister and the Defense Minister described the flaunting of Pakistani Flags and ISIS flags in different parts of the state as mere publicity stunts and appealed to the media not to highlight these activities as that may result in mainstreaming of the separatism. The grim situation in the state is now more than evident by the admissions of MHA and top Army commanders. You can very well understand how the top functionaries of your party and your government are divorced from the reality on the ground. And if they are aware of the actual situation and justify their public statements for tactical of strategic reasons then it only underlines the serious predicament of your party which if not addressed quickly will damage the BJP irreparably.
Sir, the BJP has entered into an alliance with a party which believes that Separatist goals can be decisively achieved through a soft separatist stance. It is a party which like the NC obstructs the coming closer of people of Kashmir to India by using the democratic space.
The foremost goal which the BJP has in the state is ideological and not power sharing. This is so because the Congress long back abandoned its nationalist commitments in the state. The BJP has to be a political vehicle for those segments of the people of the state who are offering resistance to communalism and separatism. If the BJP fails in this responsibility the vacuum will be filled to the permanent determent of the party. The BJP also has to realize that it cannot expand the nationalist base in the separatist dominated constituencies till it accords respectability to soft or subversive separatism. It will fail as the Congress failed in J&K.
The anger against the BJP in Jammu has risen to a level that soon the BJP activists, not to speak of the local leaders, will become persona non grata for the people of Jammu. Granting of AIIMS will certainly assuage the hurt feelings but the actual remedy for the predicament in which the BJP is today is coming out of the present government and owning its actual role in the state. As a well wisher and supporter of the party I wish that the BJP comes out of this alliance sooner than later. You are confronted with a historic situation as well as a historic opportunity for saving the BJP.
