Considering present
environmental laws
across the world as a resource for the consumption of human beings, Patrica Siemens, Director of the Centre for Earth Jurisprudence & practicing US Lawyer says that this was the reason why democracy is usually associated with people's rights in governance. While asserting the above fact she believes that earth democracy sees everything in nature as a web which is interlinked to exist and flourish.
Since 1950 humanity having used more resources than ever before, a group of environmental activists globally are advocating ‘Earth Jurisprudence’, laws for protection of Mother Earth. Though world at large is trying hard to come out of the ecological crisis facing since long, the group emphasizes to look into new ideas to emerge out of the ecological crisis.
Ascertaining and analyzing the crisis future generations may definitely fall prey to ecological crisis, if not taken care of. At present if the humans deter the practice of living within ecological limits the future seems too dark. Falling prey of it, the future generations might have to live life of ecological refugees due to extreme climatic conditions or changes making human to move from one place to other in search of valued atmosphere. Though in our country, the projects sharing such experiences stand taken up but things seem unrealistic and steps turn down the hopes by being not considered at various levels. Our country and state in particular seems to face the crisis soon, as the climatic conditions challenge the governance and scientific approaches to live better.
The ecological crisis of course has to be taken care of at individual levels and needs shifting from human dominance to eco-centric. The vulnerable least bother to check the crisis but individual efforts, groupism and community based conscious authorities with intelligentsia of human resources have to sound better in order to relieve pains, agonies and sufferings of future generations. Humans having mastered ‘Rights’ almost in every field, need to consider ‘Rights of Nature’ to adopt and practice justice of nature. Balancing diversities of life structures may lead to disaster otherwise that too, uncontrollable and destructive in its nature. Acting nor and sharing responsibility at individual/collective standards of characters are the weapons to practice rights of nature, humans being the part to sustenance and management of any situation around. 2013 Global Footprint Network study shows that 1.5 times of the earth is being used and if the initiative is not taken to change the ways, two earths will be required by 2030 and four by 2050 for fulfillment of human needs that may not be possible because of our mistakes and unwarranted anti-nature practices especially by vulnerable groups at the global stages. This threat needs definite consideration and Rights of Nature need to be introduced within our constitution in order to send message across, ecological crisis can prove disastrous and lethal weaponry platform to shift humanity to inhuman tendencies and diversities.
NGOs though in place, governance and democracy try to contain the crisis but vulnerable and criminal tendencies and practices of ours lead towards setting lives on fire by disturbing nature and entertaining our lives of years those never think of generations to come.
Let us pledge to develop character at least to avoid results of misusing natural resources, those cry for unwarranted behavioural tendencies of human beings.
Explosion of population settled on water bodies and water bodies today laugh at us when they find an opportunity to be back to home and follow the tracks, Nature had planned for them. Swaying and snatching their paths shall one day snatch our anti-nature designs as proved by September 2014 floods, all the dirt thrown into Jhelum was in our own kitchens dancing and dreaming us to develop vision for better characteristics to sustain Nature.
Practicing and adhering to Natural Laws seems obligatory but ‘Rights of Nature’ have yet to find place in constitutions of countries globally. Let us hope we approach and induct the laws in our constitutions before Nature loses patience and puts the globe on fire. |
