'Would take up issue at highest level'
AIIMS Row: Mufti decides to step in
8/5/2015 12:19:03 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 4: As the state BJP leaders have failed to handle the AIIMS issue, the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has reportedly decided to step in and take up the matter about having separate AIIMS for Jammu region at the highest level in New Delhi.
Sources told Early Times the Chief Minister has decided to write to the PMO and the Union Health Minister and explain the need for full-fledged AIIMS for Jammu region and get a notification issued in this regard, which is the main demand of AIIMS Coordination Committee, spearheading the agitation to seek AIIMS for Jammu.
The Chief Minister, sources said, held a meeting with his close aides to discuss the situation in Jammu and find a way out. "Since the central leadership of the BJP is not coming forward on the issue, Mufti has decided to talk to Arun Jaitley, the point man in the Modi government who carries the last say on JK affairs, and with whom Mufti enjoys good rapport," sources added.
"Mufti doesn't want to annoy the state BJP leadership, but as the things are going out of control, he has decided to personally talk to Jaitley and convince him on issuing a notification in this regard," they said.
Sources said Mufti doesn't want to take credit for the likely issuance of the notification but he wants to send a message that he is sensitive to the needs and aspirations of the people of Jammu. "Mufti at many instances in the past since the formation of this government has clearly shown that he is sensitive to the aspirations of the people of Jammu even when the elected representatives of Jammu have failed to deliver on this account. He is disturbed over the developments as it has the potential to create a divide between Kashmir and Jammu which he is trying to bridge," sources added.
