Early Times Report
Rajouri, Aug 22: The indefinite strike launched by students of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, came to an end after 14 days on Saturday after the varsity removed the Registrar.
The students had gone on an indefinite strike to demand removal of the Registrar Mohammad Rashid Chowdhry for his alleged involvement in a scholarship scam. The students had also demanded action against other accused, re-audit of three important accounts of the university, adequate facilities at hostels, etc.
SSP Rajouri, Dr Haseeb Mughal, agreed to change members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case after marathon meetings for three days with student representatives and Vice Chancellor/University representatives.
The breakthrough was achieved on Saturday at 7 pm, sources told Early Times. After a three-hour meeting the deadlock ended and BGSBU administration issued an order of removal of the Registrar. The SSP also agreed to change the members of the SIT and said that a new SIT team will be announced soon.
An BGSBU order said: "Mohd Rashid Chowdhary holding the substantive post of Registrar is transferred along with substantive post and posted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the office of the VC while Mohd Ishaq, in-charge Controller of Examinations, shall function as officiating Registrar in addition to his existing duties till further orders."
Notably, for the last 14 days students of College of Engineering & Technology (CoET) and other departments of BGSBU were on an indefinite strike demanding removal of the Registrar.
During the strike period, students boycotted their classes and used to assemble near the office of Vice Chancellor where they raised slogans against the university administration and in favour of their demands.
Pressure was mounting on the state government, district administration and university administration to take the issue of corruption/malpractices in the BGSBU seriously and initiate appropriate action against the accused.
