Are Farooq, Omar on talking terms?
NC, Hurriyat and talks

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 22: Are president of NC Farooq Abdullah and his son and party's working president Omar Abdullah in talking terms? Do they sit together to discuss issues before they make their views public? Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah are, it appears, not on talking terms. Had they been on talking terms or had they discussed the issues facing the state and the nation as a whole, they would not have spoken differently on the same issue on the same day.
The case in point is the contradictory stands the father and son took on the issue of talks between Pakistan National security advisor Sartaj Aziz and Kashmiri separatists like Geelani Mirwaiz, Malik and Shah. Farooq Abdullah on Friday termed Pakistan's decision to extend an invitation to Hurryiat leaders for a meeting with its National Security Adviser in Delhi as "wrong". "By extending an invitation to the Hurriyat leaders, they have created a crisis," Farooq was quoted as saying. He also cautioned Pakistan not to indulge in any talks with the Hurriyat leaders if they were serious about better relations between the two countries. "The problem is that till now the NSA-level talks have not been called off officially. India has just sent a strong message to Pakistan and it should wait for the response from the neighbouring country," Farooq was also quoted as saying. He also added that Pakistan must understand that these talks "are being" held between the two countries and not as India, Pakistan and third party talks.
Compare what Omar Abdullah said with what Farooq Abdullah said on the same issue and you would find that they were pulling in different directions, thus suggesting that they do not discuss issues between themselves before going public. Former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah criticized the Centre for blowing out of proportion the matter of the Pakistan NSA's proposed meeting with separatists when he visits Delhi for talks with his Indian counterpart. "Whose idea was it to make such a big deal of the Hurriyat -Pak chat, he said on micro-blogging website, twitter.Com. He also added that "these were such non-events before this Govt blew them out of proportion!"
The fact of the matter is that the father and the son made fool of themselves by speaking differently on the same issue on the same day. But it happened many a time in the past as well, with the arch-rivals of the NC ridiculing its leadership and laughing at it. It would be better if they discuss things before they go to the press failing which they would only become objects of ridicule.
