Jammu, Aug 22 : Association of Rational Theatre Seekers (ARTS) today submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, president Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages seeking his intervention to save the diminishing character of drama and theatre in the state. The major points submitted to the chief minister for early redressal included completion of Abhinav Theatre at the earliest. Mushtak Kak, president ARTS also demanded increase in the financial aid received by the groups for the production of plays .He said that since NZCC that is proposing to establish a regional centre in Srinagar whereas one is being proposed for Leh also , Jammu is being ignored on that account ARTS also submitted that as every year the annual Drama Festival conducted by JKAACL runs into rough weather and demanded its conduct in the month of November. The production cost of meager Rs 15,000 given to the group fails to cater to the needs of a comprehensive production and hence the quality suffers. ARTS demanded enhancement to Rs 25,000 keeping in view the rising inflation. It also demanded that an annual theatre award be announced in any category, including lighting, music, make-up, costume, set designing, acting playwriting and direction as is an annual feature in literature and fine arts. The theatre groups that signed the memorandum included Amateuer Theatre club, Shivani Cultural Society, Actors Academy, Nav Durga Kala Manch,. Balraj Sahni Punjabi Rangmanch, Vomedh Theatre and Culture Group, Natraj Natya Kunj, Pancham Society of Arts and Culture, Manoranjan Kala Kendar, Natshalla, Fourth Wall, Rangyatri, Yamini Cultural Society, Rangshalla Theater Group, Samooh Theatre Group, Sangam Theatre Group and all active artist of theatre. |
