KATHUA, Sept 29: Rainfed Research Sub Station For Sub Tropical Fruits (RRSS), Raya in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), organised one day training-cum-demonstration programme on Value Addition of Karonda for rural women and unemployed youth under SERB DST, New Delhi project entitled, "Exploitation of under-utilized fruits of Kandi areas of Jammu region through value addition for human resource development" at village Mearth, District Kathua. The programme was aimed for profitable utilization of Karonda fruit by making its Chutney on scientific lines to fetch better market price for this value added product. In this training, about 53 rural farm women and unemployed youth from Mearth village participated. The folder describing the procedure for making Karonda Chutney along with other value products like Karonda pickle, jam, etc. was also distributed among the participants as a ready rekoner.Underlying the importance of under-utilized fruits Dr Berjesh Ajrawat, Dr Neeraja Sharma and Dr Anamika Jamwal SMS, KVK, Kathua also stressed upon the participants for adopting the scientific techniques for value addition of Karonda fruit in the rainfed areas. |
