Speaker Kavinder Gupta draws more flak for watching Modelling Show

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 29: J&K Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta continues to draw more flak for watching a Modelling Show of which he was the chief guest notwithstanding the fact that RSS and BJP are ideologically opposed to the holding of such shows and celebration of Valentine's Day, terming them as vulgar and against Indian culture.
People feel that since the Speaker's chair commands a great respect, Kavinder should have kept a distance from the fashion show.
He was present in the show along with BJP activist Yudhvir Sethi.
RSS and BJP were the first to oppose to the celebrations of Valentine's Day in India and the two dissuade people every year on February 14through protests and press conferences from taking part in the Valentine's Day. This is the view point of RSS and BJP elders about fashion shows and Valentine's Day. Kavinder and Yudhvir are too part of the saffron brigade. So, under no circumstances, they can go against the party ideology.
RSS and BJP every year protest in one way or the other against the Valentine's Day celebrations, arguing that it is a western influence and against Indian culture. The leaders of the two outfits hold the view that those, who follow the western culture like the Valentine's Day and modelling shows, do so because they have forgotten the great Bhartiya Sanskriti.
But when their own leaders preside over such functions and become their chief guests, the elders are likely to face the public embarrassment because, during the erstwhile UPA government, they used to target Congress "for completely neglecting our culture and promoting the western culture". Congress was even charged with pushing the youth of the country on the wrong track and ruining their morality. What would RSS and BJP say now as their own men, one of them holding the Speaker's post, last week took part in the function where female models set the ramp on fire?
Jammuites feel that Kavinder should not have consented to be the chief guest of the fashion show.
The Speaker and Sethi were found enjoying the show and clapping as 25 male and female models walked on the ramp at the police auditorium. While Sethi, who is neither MLA nor holds any other important post, is free to move anywhere as he doesn't have anything at stake, Kavinder needs to exercise utmost care. Honour demands that he, as Speaker, should avoid attending such functions, say Jammuites.
People, who spoke to Early Times, said the Speaker had earlier also been the chief guest of such a fashion show held a few months back in Jammu.
