Kathua youth take to drugs, Police accused of inaction

Kathua, Sept 29: Kathua youth are fast becoming the victims of drug addiction due to easy availability of these drugs from neighboring states like Punjab and Himachal Pradesh but the menace goes unchecked due to inaction not the police.
Living in close vicinity of Punjab, the drug peddlers move easily in the neighbouring states and also get drugs from the truck drivers who bring them from the valley for sale in Punjab, some experts said adding, " thus Kathua being situated at end point and start of state of Jammu and Kashmir has turned a hub for drug peddlers.
The consignments of contraband in smaller packs including the prescription and psychotropic drugs are brought from the neighbouring states like Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and then sold in the town. Widespread unemployment and strict examination evaluation process are beinmg believed as reasons of the get tempted and to make quick bucks, young generation is getting slave and addicts of prescription drugs like Corex that can easily be purchased from confectionary shops where police men patronage the business. Other sedative products like Charas, Ganja and especially smack are openly being sold in entire Kathua city and adjoining villages.
It is relevant to mention that despite having knowledge of illegal supply of drugs in Kathua town and particular areas, district Police has failed all ground to control on menace that termite new generation with passing day. Drug are being openly smuggled from all entry points to the state including Kharkra, Bamiyal, Narote, Barian Pattan even through Lakhanpur- The gateway of J&K.
No hectic, pathbreaking or stringent effort has been taken by Kathua police and the things are remained same, drug peddlers are lure of becoming rich in short time. Drugs wrappers, injections, syringes can be easily seen in abandoned buildings even from Cemetery grounds of Kathua city. Hiranagar is also the hub of drugs.
Parents, peer and other members of the community need to take up a vigorous campaign to end the menace from the society by helping the addicts (who want to come over the evil habit) to shun the addiction feeling that they are not alone but there stand many helping hand for them as Police has failed to neutralize drug mafia and few policemen themselves back the menace.
Psychologists while referring to the various research papers, state that addicts at times become so dependent and emotionally weak that they even fell in prey to the anti social elements.
"To weed out this menace it now has become a serious concern for the entire literate citizen in general police particularly that may forget its responsibility towards society.
