2 more cases positive for dengue, toll reaches 21 in a month | Health deptt issues advisory | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 28: Two more persons have tested positive for dengue in Jammu region, taking the total number of patients suffering from the vector-borne disease to 21 in the last one month, State Health Department has claimed that the situation was under control and appealed to take precautions so as to save themselves from mosquito bites. Health department has so far tested 203 samples across the Jammu Province out of which 182 have been tested negative and 21 positive for dengue till date. 9 cases have been detected in Jammu, 4 cases in Kathua, 2 in Reasi, 1 in Ramban, 2 in Samba, 1 in Kisthwar, 1 in Udhampur and 1 in Rajouri . It further stated that Government Medical College and Hospital was conducted 168 tests, district Kathua hospital was performed 12 tests and Udhampur hospital conducted 24 tests till date. While interacting with media persons Director Health Service Jammu, Dr Baljeet Singh Pathania informed that, the first round of fumigation has been completed and now officials are ready for second round. "In first round, we have covered 349 ponds across Jammu region in which 95 in Jammu district so far and released anti-larva fishes in still water bodies, like ponds, in urban as well as rural areas to prevent the spread of mosquitoes, "he stated. He further added that as compared to the situation in 2013, nearly 5880 suspect cases were taken in which 1838 were positive for dengue and 4 deaths were reported but at present it is not alarming situation and people should not panic. The officials of the department are taking all necessary measures to prevent the spread of dengue in Jammu," he said, adding that measures were being taken at household, School and community level to aware the people and together fight vector-borne disease. Dr Pathania said the main cause of dengue was stagnant water and the department was spreading awareness among the masses to prevent stagnation of water. The best way to guard against the disease is to make sure there are no containers outside the house such as on a balcony or in a garden where rain water can collect, hygienic surroundings are less likely to breed mosquitoes . |
