Inian of TN, Aakanksha of Maharashtra share Chess titles | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 29 : Inian P of Tamil Nadu emerged boys champion in 41st National Sub Junior (boys) Chess Championship while Aakanksha Hagwane of Maharashtra lifted the title trophy in 32nd National Sub Junior (girls) Chess Championship decided here today. In boys' category, talented Inian was sole leader with nine points while Aakanksha had 8.5 points out of the 10-round competition which was organised by All J&K Chess Association under the banner of All India Chess Federation. Now, top four boys and one girl, obviously the champion, shall represent India in World Youth Olympiad. As also, top six boys and as many girls shall go to Russia and Spain for exposure trips. Among the participants from J&K, Meenal Gupta and Soham Kamotra performed exceptionally well. While Meenal secured six points, Soham earned 5.5 points in their respective categories. Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Jawaid Ahmed Shah was chief guest in the valedictory function, who gave away the title trophies and also presented cash prizes worth Rs. two lakh. Accompanied by the Joint Secretary of the Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma wished the participants from different states all success in their endevour to excel at the international level. Also present were Chief Sports Officer, Haji Abdul Qayoom, Divisional Officer, Rajan Sharma and member, Ranjit Kalra. Earlier, president of the All J&K Chess Association, Atul Gupta presented a detailed report of the national event. " General secretary of the Association, Ashiq Ahmed Kolu, vice president, Taravir Singh Gujral, Vikas Nanda and Dr AS Bhatia were among others present. In all, 184 players from 26 states of the country participated in this competition. Nitin Shenvi of Maharashtra was the Chief Arbiter and she was supported by six Deputy Arbiters in addition to 10 other special assistants deputed for smooth conduct. |
