Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Srinagar/Pulwama, Jan 22: A day after MLA Langate Er Rasheed threatened to handover a BJP worker to militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Policeon Friday registered a FIR against the Independent MLA for "instigating violence" in Pulwama on Thursday. The FIR has been invoked under section 341 and 506 of RPC for "criminal intimidation". Section 341 of RPC states, "Whoever wrongfully restrains any person shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term, which may extend to one month, or with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees, or with both." When contacted, cops at Police Station Pulwama confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against Rasheed, however, they did not divulge the details. While section 506 states, "Whoever commits the offence of criminal intimidation shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both; if threat be to cause death or grievous hurt, etc. And if the threat be to cause death or grievous hurt, or to cause the destruction of any property by fire, or to cause an offence punishable with death or 1[imprisonment for life], or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, or to impute, un-chastity to a woman, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, or with fine, or with both." Earlier Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader and Member of Legislative Council Sofi Yousf along with party workers from Pulwama district today had filed a written compliant with SP Pulwama Tejinder Singh accusing the legislator Er Rasheed of manhandling and threatening party workers. Sofi Yousf after filing complaint against the lawmaker briefed media and demanded stern against Er Rasheed for disturbing peace and manhandling party workers. "In democracy every citizen has a right to protest so has the MLA Rasheed but showing banners having photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with blood drops is unacceptable," Sofi said. He questioned the integrity of lawmaker and said, "You fought the elections under Indian constitution, you took oath to protect the sovereignty of the country but at the same time how you can tear the national flag." Sofi said that BJP also demanded action against the lawmaker for threatening party activists. "He threatened our workers that they will be handed over to militants. It is something serious," he added Sofi went ahead and accused Er Rasheed of receiving funds from Lashker-e-Toiba. "He doesn't have any worker in Pulwama. He is receiving funds from LeT for managing these shows for publicity," he said, adding BJP will not allow him (Er Rasheed) to be another Geelani (Syed Ali Shah Geelani). He urged Central Government to withdraw his travel documents on which he was supposed to visit Pakistan for a round table conference conveyed by Pakistan Administered Kashmir President. Pertinently, Supporters of MLA Langate and Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) President Er Abdul Rasheed came to blows with some members of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) while the legislator was carrying out protest demonstration yesterday in Pulwama town against the killing of a civilian Parvez Ahmad Guroo. |
