Dug out of road for 'BSNL cable laying ' irks locals

Poonch, Feb 1: Being notorious for its frequent down signaling and poor network the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the public sector cellular company now has left local populace brewing with resentment due to digging of major roads in Mendhar for laying its underground cables.
The sources said that BSNL has started underground cable laying work in a hasty and unplanned manner on Mendhar-Mankote road as a result of which commuters and transporters are facing the burnt due to bottlenecks created by digging and dusty rides.
Local alleged that serpentine lines of vehicle are seen on this road from morning to evening and things turn worst when school buses and ambulances carrying patients got stuck up in the frequent traffic jams. they further said that agency has started digging work without giving a proper thought to it and due to ill planning frequent traffic jams occur on this vital roads.
The locals also alleged that on many occasion they have to travel upto 5 kilometer on foot due traffic jam since the digging up work got started. "On Mendhar-Mankote road as nobody reaches to its destination on time after getting clogged in jams, some students lamented.
Not only the commuters, but the private transporters also flayed the company for its unplanned cable laying project as the stretch besides digging sans any sign board of diversion/ men at work, God Forbid this may turn into an eventuality too if drivers plying o road are not more cautious.
Meantime repeated attempts to talk to concerned BSNL authorities turned futile.
When contacted Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mendhar Thakur Sher Singh said, "I have already dashed a letter to concerned authorities for stopping ongoing digging work of the underground cable by BSNL which is causing inconvenience to local people.
"They will further be sent a reminder for the same and shall be asked to maintain the road for smooth traffic with an immediate effect," the SDM maintained.
