Early Times Report
Anantnag, Feb 1 : Power Development Department on Monday sought week's time from agitating Srigufwara residents to fix a major technical snag in the Receiving Station.
Reports said that this morning residents of Srigufwara, Darigund, Hitigam, Mehnad and other adjacent villages blocked Bijbehara-Pahalgam road at Tehsil headquarter Srigufwara and held protests against frequent power cuts.
Protesters alleged that they are witnessing frequent power cuts since the onset of winter due to major technical snag in Receiving Station Khiram. "After fifteen minutes we witness a power cut and PDD staff working in our village (Srigufwara) say Receiving Station Khiram has technical fault," protesters said. Raising slogans against PDD, they said that their past protests against the department didn't yield any results and their repeated pleas went unheard. "We blocked road, held similar protests but due to official apathy and non-seriousness of the former government nothing happened on ground," Irshad Ahmad, a protester said.
He slammed department for not fixing the technical snag in Receiving Station Khiram.
"Not fixing the technical snag means putting the lives of their own employees on risk," he added.
Although Srigufwara Police tried its best to pacify the protesters but angry residents continued the protest till senior Power Development Department visited the spot.
Executive Engineer PDD (Maintenance), Executive Engineer PDD (STD) along with subordinate officials visited Srigufwara and sought week's time for overhauling the system and replacing additional transformer sanctioned by the previous NC-Congress government at Receiving Station Khiram.
On PDD official's assurance, protesters dispersed off peacefully. Official Sources revealed that Receiving Station Khiram has major and needs immediate up gradation to end the power crisis.
They admitted the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Receiving Station Khiram are witnessing 14-18 power cuts on daily basis.
