Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 21: The unrecognized 'preparatory' schools in Kashmir have been fleecing parents and misbehave with them in case they raise queries vis-à-vis fee structure and other undue expenses they are asked to pay monthly.
Many parents despite approaching higher-ups of Education department claimed that their complaints against these elementary schools were taken for-granted with the result owners of said schools have been taking undue advantages of the authorities silence over the issue.
"I got my two year old ward admitted in Kids Zee Nursery School at Karan Nagar some two months back, and I was asked to pay rupees 2100 monthly including bus fee. Now barely after two months the principal of the said school is charging rupees 2500 for bus and 1400 tuition fee separately," said Hameeda Begum.
She further informed that when she approached the school principal and inquires as to how he could charge monthly bus and tuition fee more than the double and that too within a span of two months, he instead of resolving the issue amicably misbehaved with her.
"Actually I shifted to some other place within municipal limits, I requested the principal to ensure bus service on that route, he initially refused to provide bus facility and when I requested him for the same, he charged me more than the double for mere three kilometers distance," she added.
When contacted President Joint Committee of Private Schools (PJCPS), G.N Var claimed that all the Nursery Schools operating in the valley are unrecognized who use to fleece parents on pretext to another.
"These schools does not have any affiliation with PJCPS as all of them are unrecognized, their aim is to mint money and fleece the parents, we will also take necessary action against them besides parent need to approach Director Education or DC to intervene," Var told 'Early Times'.
Hameeda said that the school administration has been playing hide and seek with her "sometime they ask me to meet the driver personally and convince him to ensure bus service; sometime they claim that they lack bus documents hence cannot help her at all," she claimed.
She accused the school administration of misleading her on one pretext to another besides making her suffer for want of transport facility for her ward.
"I told the principal if he cannot provide transport facility then it is mandatory for him to refund so that I could admit my ward to some nearby school, he not only refused to pay but misbehaved with me. Aap hamari sharafat ka najayaz faida utha rahe hain, you are taking undue advantage of our civility," Hameeda quoted the Principal as having said.
Dr Tariq Ahmad another parent whose ward studies at a renowned nursery school said " the dairy of my ward is full of demands, we are being asked for what our ward cannot do even after five years, this is sheer blackmailing.
