'Jammu is also not part of Kashmir'
Calling Geelani's bluff
4/21/2016 11:22:44 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 21: The other day, Pakistani agent and fanatic Syed Ali Shah Geelani urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to continue to support the Kashmiri separatist cause while rejecting the statement of the External Affairs Ministry that J&K was an integral part of India.
"Kashmir was never an integral part of India, which has controlled it by military strength. There is no constitutional or moral justification to Indian occupation in Kashmir," Geelani said.
There was nothing new in what Geelani said. He only reiterated his stated position. However, his oft-repeated stand that the entire state of J&K was for the right to self-determination was nothing but a desperate attempt to create an impression the world over that the whole of the state's whole population stood for independence from India, which was never the case.
Jammu, which ruled over Kashmir for full 101 years between March 1846 and October 1947, and Ladakh never ever vouched for the right to self-determination. On the contrary, people of both the regions have been struggling hard to link their fate with New Delhi and seeking not only abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, but also seeking separation from Kashmir, saying they can't have any kind of truck with Kashmiri secessionists and communalists.
It was not for nothing that late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, father of J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, repeatedly said that Kashmir and Jammu were North Pole and South Pole and it was his wish to bridge the guld between the two disparate regions. The late Mufti only hit the nail on the head when he described the alliance between the PDP and the BJP as an alliance between the South Pole and the North Pole.
However, the problem of the nation in Kashmir is not Geelani and others of his ilk. The problem of the nation in J&K is the Indian political class, which has been pampering the fanatics and secessionists and treating the nationalists in the state, especially the people of Jammu and Ladakh and Kashmiri Hindus, shabbily and doing everything under the sun to give veto power to Kashmir. It's no wonder then that the people of Jammu and Ladakh hold the Indian political class or the powers-that-be in New Delhi responsible for their neglect and marginalization and promotion of fissiparous tendencies in the Valley. The latest example is the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Katra statement on Kashmiriyat.
People of Jammu and Ladakh want New Delhi to deal with Kashmir and with them separately, saying the political perceptions of theirs and Kashmiri leaders are contradictory and mutually exclusive, but all their efforts have failed to produce the desired results. As a consequence, emboldened Geelani and the ilk not only say that Kashmir is not part of India but also want the international community and organizations like OIC to impose the Kashmiri will on the unwilling people of Jammu and Ladakh. This approach of New Delhi will not do. It has to realize that Jammu and Ladakh are Indian failing which New Delhi would face a serious situation in these two regions.
