Ancient shrine of 'Baba Goran' cries for attention, devotees suffer

Samba, Apr 21: With the authorities concerned in slumber over the maintenance of main approach road to the ancient shrine of Baba Shivo popularly known as Baba Goran, the devotees are forced to face problems to reach to this holy shrine.
Devotees from Hindu and others communities also throng to the shrine in large number yet the shrine has been neglected by the district authorities till date despite the fact that the shrine is one among the pilgrimage attractions in Samba district.
"Everyday a large number of devotees throng to this shrine to seek the blessings of revered deity -Baba Goran, while shrine witness thousands of devotees every Sunday and Tuesday but the authorities have not made adequate arrangements for pilgrims, who come from different parts of the state," lamented one of the local Sham Singh.
"The shrine sans the basic facilities for devotees i.e. Accommodation facility, arrangements of water, electricity, public convenience and healthcare facilities for the devotees who visit this place, local alleged while adding, "the dilapidated road is another major reason to discourage the visitors to the shrine as it is waiting for immediate renovation and up gradation but the authorities concerned yet have not taken any step in this regard. "Daily commuters and school going children from the area also are facing a lot of difficulties due to roads in shambles with big potholes."
Locals further alleged that the Baba Goran Shrine was neglected by successive governments.
Had the shrine been developed properly it would have uplifted not only attracted huge number of devotees but also have resulted into upliftment of socio economic status of people Goran village.
Another local Yuvraj Singh said, "People managed the development activities of shrine at their own." "The district authorities have done nothing till date to develop the shrine. As the link roads are in shamble especially between Samba to Sumb and Goran, the vehicles cannot ply on the road which is a major hindrance of attraction of devotees.
Local demanded early construction cum repair of Samba-Goran road at an earliest.
As per local legends, Baba Goran popularly known as Shivo lived some 200 years ago and locals since centuries hold great faith in him for his saintly qualities and spiritual powers. It is said that devotees get their wishes fulfilled if sought with a true feeling and strong faith. Many devotees often organize Bhandara (community kitchen) at the temple after their wishes get fulfilled.
