Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 21: The real face of BJP, which calls itself the champion of Jammu cause, can be gauged from the fact that its leaders have miserably failed to get the Tawi lake project completed.
The work on lake project started nearly six years ago on July 22, 2010 and was designed to attract considerable flow of tourists from outside state ensuring their short sojourn in Jammu City to boost and benefit the tourism industry and business class here. Since the people of Jammu division were fed up with NC and Congress dispensation, they openly voted in favour of BJP pinning hopes on the latter that it will bring people out of decades old discrimination meted out to them at the hands of successive Kashmiri rulers.
Despite it being part of the state government and also ruling in New Delhi, the BJP awfully lacks guts to vigorously follow up the completion of vital lake project suffering inordinate delay due to slow flow of funds from the Centre. The funds are required for tapping dirty water directly flowing to tawi river from city nullahs through big pipes proposed to be laid down from Gujjar Nagar and Jogi Gate cremation ground side along right back of river and also similar channel from left side of river disposing off the dirty water coming from Gorakh Nagar and Bahu Fort.
Sources informed that new target date to complete the project was March 31, 2016 which has also expired and after taking up the project in 2010, it has missed nearly five deadlines.
Around 95 percent civil works and 90 percent mechanical works stand completed. The funding pattern for the project was on 90:10 basis (90 percent by the Central Government and 10 percent by the state government).
Sources further informed that remaining work of the project needs to be followed up closely with the Centre so far as the availability of funds is concerned and if still a good sense of belongings prevails upon state BJP leaders and sincerely exert to get remaining work of the project speeded up, the ambitious lake project can be got completed expeditiously even as the concerned Ministry is also being held by the BJP in the newly formed government, further said, adding that there is still ray of hope exists for BJP to regain its dented image due to anti Jammu policies adopted to appease one section of the State during last innings in government at the cost of antagonizing its own constituencies. They told that if the BJP leaders follow the old dictum of "better late than never", they still have the opportunity and time with them to mend their autocratic style of functioning and prove their fidelity by doing people friendly tasks for Jammu also which they had been glamouring while in opposition and also raising voice loudly against discriminatory handling by successive rulers, which they can minimize if not put to an end by exerting effectively and efficiently while in power.
