Early Times Report

Jammu, May 29: Despite Union Home Ministry's order to DGP and Home department J&K, to take appropriate action against Police Officer for illegal detention of a citizen, the erring officer not only went scot free, but also got promoted.
A police officer who was accused of illegally detaining innocent citizens and committing atrocities on them did not only escape action, but got promoted. The accused officer is manning important police stations after he was posted from a police post in Jammu.
Victim of police's atrocities' Rohit Gupta son of Hem Raj Gupta, filed complaint before State Human Rights Commission and also brought cruelty of police into the notice of Union Home Ministry, Chief Minister Grievance Cell, but the erring of police officer, the then In-charge Police Post, Sarwal went scot free, for misusing power.
"On complaint from Ankush Khajuria, Rohit Gupta was arrested and booked under section 452, 323, 307, RPC 3/25 A Act, on May 26 2012 at 12:20 AM", copy of reply submitted by Sub Inspector, Ravi Singh, the then In-charge Police Post, Sarwal submitted to State Human Right Commission, read.
Interestingly, 'victim' Ankush Khajuria in his complaint addressed to in-charge police post Sarwal mentioned that he was attacked by Rohit Gupta on May 26, 2012. However, the witness who submitted affidavit before the State Human Right Commission had also exposed cruelty of police.
"That on intervening night of 25/26 May 2012 between 11:45 to 12 PM night I received a phone call from Chanda Gupta wife of Rohit Gupta, she told me that Sarwal Police has arrested her husband without any fault without allowing him to wear proper clothes", Inspector of J&K Police, Darshan Singh informed the Commission.
He further informed that he along with wife of the victim rushed to police post, where in-charge post Ravi Singh could not explain reasons of detention of Rohit Gupta.
"We rushed to PP Sarwal, where Rohit Gupta was in lockup in underwear only. I enquired from the Sub Inspector Ravi Singh, in which case Rohit was arrested, the Sub Inspector informed that arrest was made on direction of higher authorities", the officer submitted before the commission.
Chief Minister's Grievance Cell in response to complaint by Rohit Gupta, asked Principal Secretary to Government Home Department to examine the complaint.
However, the Ministry of Home Affairs J&K Division, Government of India on January 30, 2015 asked to Principal Secretary, Home Government, J&K and K Rajendra, Director General of Police Government of India to take action into the matter and then issued a reminder on March 16, 2015
Unfortunately, after intervention Union Home Ministry, Chief Minister's Grievances Cell and State Human Rights Commission, the victim of Police's cruelty is waiting justice.
