Early Times Report
rajouri, Aug 26: Throwing all norms to winds, an "influential political worker" from a ruling party has illegally started construction of road to his estate passing through forestland in Panchayat Nallah Makaul of Sunderbani Tehsil .
The villagers of Nahoti area took to streets when a JCB surfaced in the area and started excavating forestland for construction of road to a particular land owned by the "political worker."
Sources said some of the officials of the Forest Department and the Revenue were helping the influential worker to meet his "nefarious objectives of constructing the road via forestland."
The villagers said they had no objection in development of road but lamented that it should be constructed via the village so that they too get benefitted. "Why construct the road via forest when it's illegal and won't help anyone other than the influential political worker alone," the villagers shouted even as they instantly registered their protests with the Forest department Ranger, Vinod Kumar Sharma. The official while downplaying the matter said it would be confirmed by the Revenue department whether the land falls in the domain of the forest area or not and that Patwari would be sent to the spot. But the villagers objected to the official version saying that the land in question was forestland.
Talking to Early Times, Commissioner Secretary Forest upheld the public opinion saying that at least "67 feet area along the demarcation is to be treated as forestland." "So this area if so close must be in the forestland," he admitted.
He said he was in New Delhi and on his return would personally look into the matter.
Meanwhile the villagers while talking to Early Times said that much like the concerned Forest officials, the revenue officials were hand in glove with the political worker and were helping him in achieving his objectives.
The villagers appealed to the Union Forest Minister to intervene into the matter.
