Jammu, Oct 5: In connection with the 65th Wildlife Conservation week celebration, the Department of Animal Sciences & Wildlife & Department of Plant Sciences of Central University of Jammu organized a one day workshop here today in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife & Protection, J&K, The Indian Sciences Congress Association, Kolkata-Jammu Chapter and the Wildlife Conservation Fund, Jammu & Kashmir. The workshop inaugurated with the lightening of ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries and welcome address by Prof. N.K.Tripathi, Head Department of Animal Sciences & Wildlife & Department of Plant Sciences. The chief guest of the programme was Prof Lokesh Verma, Academic Coordinator of Central University of Jammu while R.S. Jasrotia, Retd. IFS, J&K Forest department, A.K.Gupta, CCF J&K Forest department, Upendra Pachnanda, Retired IFS, Ranvijay Singh, Head Department of Zoology, GGM Science College Jammu and Nadeem Qadri, Environment lawyer were among the dignitaries invited for the guest lectures. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Lokesh Verma deliberated upon the relevance of wildlife, conservation & its significances. He said that wildlife protection is the need of the hour and on behalf of Vice Chancellor he extended his full support and cooperation for such workshops, seminars, conferences related to wildlife & plant life protection, conservation & management. R.S. Jasrotia spoke on the "human-animal conflict: manifestation & resolution" while Upendra Pachnanda deliberated upon the man-animal conflict & animal rights. A.K. Gupta gave a detailed talk on the wildlife department of J&K and about the poaching of animals. Ranvijay Singh presented his lecture on wildlife conservation and Nadeem Qadri discussed about the animal conservation through his presentation & short documentary film. Apart from the lectures, on spot Rangoli, Painting, Slogan writing and Quiz competitions related to the wildlife were organized for undergraduate students. The workshop concluded with the prize distribution among the winners of the competitions The proceedings of the workshop were conducted by Shivatambri, Assistant Professor, Animal Sciences & Wildlife, Vinita Sharma & Stanzin Ladol both department of Animal Sciences & Wildlife were also present on the occasion. |
