Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 5: The deplorable condition of road leading to main stadium - Moulana Azad Stadium the hub of the sports activities virtually making the sports persons to begrudged but the authorities concerned still are in slumber.
Some of the sports persons on promised anonymity informed that callous attitude of J&K State Sports Council and other executing agency can be gauged from the fact that the potholed road leading to MA Stadium not only gives a bad impression to visitors to Stadium but also make many morning walkers prone to injuries.
"The authorities concerned apparently have failed to repair/treat the potholes despite repeated requests, they said. They alleged that from last 5 years these roads were facing the careless attitude of higher ups.
A sportsperson wishing not to disclose his identity told Early Times that the higher ups always claimed that as they are spending funds for the welfare of the stadium and its maintenance too but the ground realities are completely different and everyone can see the sincerity of authority towards development of stadium while players are crying for basic facilities.
"Both the main road leading to MA Stadium and its peripheral road are in bad shape which exposes the sincerity of the authorities to the responsibilities entrusted to and ironically the repeated reminders too have fallen to deaf ears," he added.
"These potholes could lead to any mishaps and some unfortunate accidents too have reported evey now and then, sources said, adding, "but who cares?"
"We cannot use peripheral road for running/jogging as it is full of potholes and it makes sportsperson prone to accidents," said a young basket ball player.
When contacted Joint Secretary, J&K State Sports Council Shiv Kumar Sharma briefly told that the matter is not in his notice. He however assured that repair works will start soon wherever required.
