Sensing defeat, separatists involve school kids in protests | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 5: Sensing that the protest agitation is fast slipping out of their hands, the separatists through their new protest calendar have tried to get the children in the forefront to implement their agenda. Separatists on Wednesday issued a new protest calendar calling for march to the United Nation (UNMOGIP) office in Srinagar. Besides, it has asked students to hold "freedom conventions". In one protest demonstration, the people have been asked to march towards their respective police stations. What is surprising is the protest programme issued for Oct 9 which has been termed as 'One Day Students' Resistance Convention.' The handout issued by the separatists has asked all the students, school to university level, from neighbouring villages and localities to organise one-day students' resistance convention from 11 am to 4 pm in respective areas. "Professors, teachers, research scholars, and others professionals should actively participate in this one-day teaching-learning program," reads the statement. This is for the first time in the history of Kashmir that student fraternity has been asked to take part in any political activity. Meanwhile, as the protest calendar was issued, it raised serious concern among the people here with some terming it tantamount to using students as a shield during the ongoing unrest. Parents were concerned about the safety of their children and questioned the very move of involving student fraternity in the agitation. "It will have far more dangerous consequences. Involving school kids into any political activity is utterly shameful. It should not have happened," was how a netizen expressed his resentment. Parents while terming such a move uncalled for, say if such a trend gains ground in Kashmir, it will destroy everything including the values and the social system. "Where have you seen children being dragged into the political fight? If separatists had courage, they should have fought with facts. But involving students means they want chaos and disorder to mar everything," says a worried parent hailing from Srinagar. Pertinently, since the past one week there was an improvement in the situation witnessed in restive Valley with normal life striving to limp back to normalcy. The people had started coming out gradually to resume their routine business with life getting back on track. Sensing trouble, the separatists first issued threats and them set ablaze the auto rickshaws in Srinagar. Now, the separatists have come up with a novel move: getting the students on the forefront to regain the lost ground. It remains to be seen whether the situation would turn in the favour of trouble mongers or against them. |
