Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Oct 18: Even after four days since the devastating fire reduced the whole Sukhni village of Warwan Kishtwar District to ashes, the people of the area have now become vulnerable to various epidemic diseases as large number of half bunt corpses of cattle/domestic animals are scattered all around the village.
As per the details available with "Early Times" the foul smell has started coming out of the debris which is still lying unattended in the village as no major relief team other than police party lead by DySP (Ops) Irshad Ahanger and army troops of 19 RR reached to ill-fated village.
The affected people informed the "Early Times" that IAF Chopper pressed into the service by the government due to lack of coordination between agencies dropped the relief material far away instead of the fire affected village as the people have to walk around 3 hour foot journey to collect relief material. They also alleged that as the Chopper dropped relief material some distance away from village or it got drifted by the winds but a lot of material was lifted some non entities.
In sheer desperation, the locals lamented though we are living in modern era but we are deprived of immediate relief and even our choppers fail to land despite huge chunk of the plain land is available in the Sukhni village.
"Government should expedite the process of shifting of relief material dumped at Kishtwar helipad by pushing more and more choppers for quick relief, they demanded.
While talking to "Early Times" Chief Medical Officer Kishtwar said that sufficient stock of medicine is available in the fire affected areas, beside a team of doctors headed by BMO Dachhan is also camping in the area. He said that the things are being monitored and said health authorities are equipped with enough resources to curb the breaking out of any epidemic in the area. He said that the due surveillance is being maintained and all precautions are being taken to deal with any eventuality.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is expected to visit the fire affected village tomorrow as a result of which district administration is rushing to Sukhni village to take the stock of situation as well as the progress of the relief and rehabilitation. Chief minister is likely to make some announcement in regard to welfare and rehabilitation of the affected families keeping in view the winters at hand.
