Srinagar, Oct 18: Though the situation is gradually limping back to normal in the valley, the three month long unrest has impelled cancellation of several board meetings, especially in the public sector undertakings. Under the set rules all the state run government departments and corporations (PSUs), have to conduct quarterly board meetings where important decisions with respect to progress and working are taken. However according to sources no such meetings have taken place from last three months. Besides the unrest, board meetings are intentionally being deferred because of the fact that the departments and PSU's have made no progress during the turmoil period.
Sources said that most of the PSUs have nothing to report to the board about the progress achieved. "As the board meetings could not be convened, the important decisions and plans are not being fully implemented," sources said.
One of the officials in civil secretariat told Early TIMES that similar is the position with Industries and Commerce department and its corporations which have postponed the board meetings a number of times during the last three months.
Sources said that similarly, the housing board meeting slated for 20th, has also cancelled.
Sources said that likewise meetings pertaining to LAWDA, SDA have also been canceled.
"In view of the repeated cancellations of the board meetings the government could not know the state of affairs of such departments as a result these departments are turning to be white elephants for the government" sources said.
Another senior official in the secretariat on condition of anonymity said that the condition of JKI, Housing Board, SIDCO, JK cements is worsening by each passing day as these corporations could not achieve the production targets and sales.
Sources said that another reason is that most of the ministers who happen to be the chairmen of such corporations have not devoted time to them and have taken an advantage of such turmoil for their personal works. "These ministers have most of the time remained away form Srinagar and devoted time in Jammu." Sources maintained.
Sources alleged that the government is not interested to take review of performance of the corporations as a result all corporations are trailing behind.
An expert on company affairs said that such board meetings are very vital and important as decisions regarding the future course of action is taken in these meetings and also a review on action taken on the decisions in the earlier meetings is done.
