CM Mehbooba calls separatists' bluff
It's 'vandalism'

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 18: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has understood the game plan of separatists. And why not? She is not Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir only. She also holds the sensitive portfolio of Home. Obviously, she knows more than anybody else about the nature of the ongoing movement and who are behind it or sustaining it. There are several agencies working in Kashmir and other parts of the state and they are keeping her fully aware of the minute to minute development. Besides, she head the Unified Command which takes all security-related decisions, including deployment and redeployment of forces in the areas which need utmost attention.
It was natural that the Chief Minister not once but on several occasions tore into Pakistan and its paid agents in Kashmir and held them responsible for the Kashmir unrest. However, it was on Monday that she made a very significant and meaningful statement on the Kashmir movement. She dismissed the ongoing movement as vandalism and also defended the deployment of paramilitary forces in Kashmir. She took a stand which none ever imagined.
Terming the ongoing movement in Kashmir vandalism and defending the paramilitary forces, Mehbooba Mufti said: "Deployment of CRPF is not done out of pleasure but due to security apprehensions of the people who want to carry on with normal lives…Once the situation normalizes the security forces deployment will decrease. In one such incident, a girl was killed at Parimpora in the city. Once there is improvement in situation, the vandalism decreases, the role of security forces will decrease. They will go back to their barracks".
There was no ambiguity whatever in what the Chief Minister said. Her message was loud and clear. Her message was that her government had understood the mischief makers and that the presence of paramilitary forces was imperative in the Valley considering the nature of the movement. Hers was a rebuff to those in Kashmir who had been describing the ongoing movement a movement for a cause and hers was also a rebuff to those in Kashmir who had been making wild charges against the paramilitary forces.
That the Chief Minister means business could be seen from the fact that her government has started putting behind the bars hooligans and Pakistani agents and sending some of them outside Kashmir. The last few days have witnessed the arrest of many anti-social and anti-national elements, as also the slapping of PSA on them.
