Jammu to have First pain killer center in north India

Sources told Early Times that same centre had been established at tertiary level Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu nearly 10 years ago but due to lack of interest by the administration, the centre failed to take off. Moreover, Anesthesia department of any medical college has to run pain clinic but in GMCH the facilities is not available so far.
Expressing satisfaction, a doctor said that the pain treatment was available at tertiary level due to which patients as well as doctors had to face lot of hardships in dealing with acute pain but now the treatment of severe pain will be available at secondary level under the Health Services. Patients will get treatment from those doctors who have specialization in pain management.
They also said that after opening the centre, the patients with chronic pain including back and neck pain, Knee pain, slipped disc pain, Joint pain, Ankle& Heel pain, Arthritis pain, Head ache, Sports injuries, Neuralgic pain, Fibromylgia and cancer pain will get relief from the severe pain.
"Due to non-availability of specialized pain killer centre, the patients are running from pillar to post for getting relief from the pain, "doctors said and adding that numbers of patients moved outside the State for cure and spent huge amount for treatment.
They further said that according to a survey it was estimated that about 70 per cent of the 40 plus population suffered with chronic pain and almost 70 to 75 percent of cancer patients died with acute pain in India. "Increasing cases of the chronic pain is of concern to health professionals, patients, society, and negatively impacts quality of life these days, "docs said.
