JAMMU, July 24: Shri Ram Sena (SRS) has expressed serious concern over frequent media reports wherein some DIPR retired employees whose track record while in service was highly distrustful and also that they launched their newspapers while in service either on their names or the names of their family members are illegally involved in distribution of Govt advertisements besides using J&K RTI Act of 2009 to blackmail Govt officials. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Shri Ram Sena State President, Rajiv Mahajan said that the main objective of the J&K Right to Information Act-2009 was to empower citizens, promote transparency and accountability in the working of the government and curb corruption. However, in the recent times, rather than hitting the wrong in the system, he said, many RTI activists in the city have started targeting officials for vested interests. Mahajan appealed to Governor to identify such so called RTI Activists who instead of highlighting the wrongdoings in the departments to bring improvement in the system have started targeting persons for vested interests, which is wrong. "The whole purpose of the RTI Act gets defeated if things are taken personally. Pick and choose policy by activists should be avoided and as responsible citizens, we need to bring transparency and improvement in the system. An RTI activist has no right to blackmail an earring official," said Mahajan. |
