Govt removes encroachment along seasonal Nullah Sidhra | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad
Early Times Report Jammu, July 24: The irrigation and flood control department on Tuesday claimed to have removed the encroachment along the seasonal Nullah Sidra. According to the locals, over 50 Kanals of prime government land along a seasonal nullah and some portion of nullah, which falls near the Police headquarters Sidhra, was encroached by the land grabbers. One of the officials of the irrigation flood control department informed early times that the encroachment has been removed from the Nalllah. "We have removed the encroachment form that site, pictures enclosed," the statement from the concerned Assistant executive engineer (AEE) issued to Early Times reads. The locals had alleged that the "land mafia" has grabbed some portion of Nallah near security headquarter by constructing a small shed after taking the concerned into confidence. "This land mafia has a typical modus-operandi; they first grab some land, then construct a shed which they pretend to be a cow shed. After a few months they get land records fudged and show the government property as personal," said one of the residents. He said that the land mafia which has mi ted fortunes has been active in the area for the past several years. "With the hand- in glove with the officials concerned such land brokers, over the years have grown very strong, influential and powerful in the corridors of power and thus nobody touches them in any regime," the resident explained. It is to mention here that Locals had alleged that the land grabbers in connivance with the officials chose night hours to grab the land. "Over 10 dumpers and some land movers had reached to the area in two previous nights and had started dumping and levelling the area. We initially thought that it was being done by some government authorities to raise some government structure, but later found that the activity was done by grabbers," the locals had informed early times. They had further alleged that now the land of nullah, which came under the jurisdiction of Irrigation and Flood Control Division have been passing buck to Jammu Development Authority or the Jammu and Kashmir Police to take action. "Neither I&FD or Jammu and Kashmir Police is going to take any action as there could be possibilities that the officials of both department may already be on board". |
