Rigorous life-imprisonment to husband for wife's murder | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 24: Principal Sessions Judge Bhaderwah MK Sharma today awarded Surinder Singh S/O Roshan Lal R/O Hanga, Tehsil Bhaderwah who murdered his wife for dowry. According to the prosecution case, deceased Babli Devi was married to the accused Surinder Singh, and the couple was blessed with two sons. The accused used to harass and beat the deceased with the view to coerce her to meet unlawful demand of dowry. In the intervening night of 6/7 January 2014, the accused severely beat the deceased causing injury on the head which proved fatal. Principal Sessions Judge Bhaderwah MK Sharma after hearing Public Prosecutor Manju Sharma for the State whereas Advs P.K. Parihar & F.H. Beigh for the accused observed that this is a case of murder of a young lady by none other than her husband, for whom she left the family of her parents and siblings. The victim was his wife. Both of them were living together and have two small kids. These small kids have been deprived of their parenting. They have lost their mother in this incident and their father is behind the bars since then. The case however does not fall in the category of rarest of rare cases where the death sentence is warranted. The convict is, therefore, sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life and fine of Rs.5,000/- for the commission of offence u/s 302 RPC and imprisonment for one year and fine of Rs.1000/- for the commission of offence u/s 201 RPC. In case of default in payment of fine the convict shall undergo further simple imprisonment of two months. |
