India has termed as "totally baseless" Pakistan's statement, charging Indian authorities in Kashmir with diverting the waters of the river Jhelum for the second phase of the hydroelectric project in Uri in Kashmir Valley. Islamabad's allegation that New Delhi allowed violation of the Indus Water Treaty in Kashmir "does not hold water", it was officially stated.
The construction of a 37-metre-long tunnel to redirect the Jhelum river for the second phase of the hydroelectric power project in Uri has been completed. Public sector National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) had assigned to the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) the construction contract for the 240-MW Uri-II project. A spokesperson of the HCC has stated that the company has sucessfully constructed the tunnel to divert the water to the dam site iu Uri near the Line of Control (LoC).
Answering a question by EARLY TIMES, the spokesman divulged that the tunnel was constructed at a "brisk pace" despite the area being prone to incessant rain and snowfall and the earthquake in 2006.The ... | |

Member Legislative Assembly, Pampore Mir Zahoor Ahmed has urged for relocation of 8 new private cement units in Khrew area as the location of these units are creating environmental pollution in the area.
