| FM eats up currency words | | Cornered by all, Karra says was misquoted | | | Nirbhay Jammual
Jammu | Jan 5
Being pushed from all corners on the issue of "sovereignty and national integrity", the Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Karra today had to eat a humble pie on his separate currency remarks even as Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig clarified that there was no such proposal either before the Peoples Democratic Party or the Congress.
Interestingly instead of coming to the rescue of his party colleague Karra, the Deputy Chief Minister Baig strongly refuted that any such discussion took place at the party level.
The Finance Minister Karra has been facing an all out criticism for last few days ever since he said that after the self-rule proposal put in ...

Jammu | Jan 5
Even though the Finance Minister rolled back on his statement on the common currency, the Panthers Party leader Prof Bhim Singh today impressed upon the Chief Minister to sack the "Law Minister" for his anti-national statement.
In an elaborate statement against the Chief Minister for allowing a Minister to talk about separate currency, the Panthers Party leader went on to identify the minister in question as "Law Minister". It is pertinent to mention here that the statement on separate currency for Jammu and Kashmir was made by the Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Karra who is not the Law Minister. In fact the Law Minister is the Deputy Chief Minister Muz...

Jammu | Jan 5
The Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today chaired a meeting of the legislators of Congress party and its associate members, where eye-catching by his unexpected absence was the Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen.
This was essentially a Congress legislature party meeting to discuss the party stand during ensuing session of the state legislature. The Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen who attended the meeting at Chief Minister's residence is neither a legislator of the Congress party nor its associate member.
By way of definition, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen though an independent legislator has his separate identity in the legislative assem...

Jammu | Jan 5
Senior Peoples Democratic Party leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig may have regained the crown of Deputy Chief Minister but he still continues to be divested of the important position of the party's floor leader in the legislative assembly.
Muzaffar Baig was the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party's legislature party in the assembly till he was removed from the post of Deputy Chief Minister on September 1, 2006. In fact, immediately after the differences of Baig had cropped by the party leadership he was first removed as the leader of the Legislature party and then as Deputy Chief Minister.
The party had unanimously elected its senior leader and Agricul...

The Third Front cannot be a viable force in the country without the participation of Left parties, National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah has said.
"Without Left parties, the Third Front cannot emerge as a viable force," he told reporters here last evening referring to the formation of UNPA.
The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, however, kept his party's options open in joining the UNPA, led by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu.
"I am keeping my options open...Whether to join the Third Front or not. We will decide it on time," he said.

Jammu | Jan 5
The warning served by the police in Srinagar to the people against walking on the frozen Dal lake takes me down the memory lane, to recall the adventures associated with the frozen Dal lake, in the past. The Dal lake was frozen for the first time in the year 1959, so far as the known history of the lake goes. Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, the then Prime Minister of the state, who was known for his dash and dare devil antics drove his jeep over the lake, which was frozen about 22 inches thick, the Bakshi drove the vehicle for more than 20 minutes near the Hazratbal coast of the lake which is one of the major tourist attraction in Kashmir. He enjoyed...
