Will BPL scandal unfold? J&K claims lowest poverty rate, but deptts have their own figures Jammu, Oct 12: As the department of Economics and Statistics draws close to the deadline on its counting of the families living below poverty line, a biggest political-administrative scandal of the recent times may be unfolded. If the first ever economic survey of Jammu and Kashmir is to be believed, the state can be placed among the top ranking affluent states of the country. The economic survey presented in the assembly yearly this year had put Jammu and Kashmir in a confident mode by showing just three per cent of the total population living below the poverty line. However, if ...

Has the ray of hope Gandhi ji seen in Kashmir faded?
10/12/2007 9:18:42 PM
Early Times Special Correspondent Jammu | Oct 12 Has the ray of light Gandhi ji seen in Kashmir, amidst communal holocaust in various parts of the country, in the wake of country's partition in 1947, faded? Was this light so dim and marked in delible ink to get erased with the passage of time? Are not Gandhi ji's teaching of non-violence, truth and love for human being no more relevant in Kashmir of today embroiled in violence and bloodshed? These are the million dollar questions on the lips of the people in the country as well as in J&K, who still accord significance to the message of peace, love and communal brotherhood taught by Gandhi ji. The fact remains that the ray of light the F...

10/12/2007 9:16:57 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | Oct 12 Hundreds of crores of rupees are every year pumped for running the nationalized Jammu and Kashmir exclusive television channel 'DD Kashir' but there is no space for the second and third largest spoken languages and practiced cultures –Dogri and Gojri. As activists waiting for the appropriate decisions on due space to these languages see no promise from the broadcaster, the pain is being felt among the Duggar and Gujjar circles who have joined hands to nail the discrimination unleashed by the Doordarshan. It is significant to mention here that Dogri and Gojri languages are a predominant linguistic identity of Jammu region but the channel exclusively me...
