| Senior Police officers misusing manpower | | Constables, SG Constables running errands in officers' residences | | | Abodh Sharma
JAMMU, Nov 6: An officer of the rank of IGP in Chandigarh was recently reprimanded following reports that he had deployed as many as 21 Jawans to serve him and his family. While Chandigarh Police took cognizance of the misuse of human resource by its senior officer, men in uniform continue to be misused by the officers of the State Police with impunity and no serious thought has been spared to their plight by the Police administration for obvious reasons.
From SPOs to head constables, men in khaki have been siphoned off from public service and deployed to serve their bosses, their families and extended families while the Police posts and Police stations rue paucity of manpower for normal policing. These men, who reserve the honour of adorning the Khakis and are selected through a stringent physical and written test end up working as drivers, cooks, domestic helps and chowkidars at the houses and farm houses of their bosses.

JAMMU, Nov 6: The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has expressed serious aspersions on the working of the Jammu Police, indicating in clear terms that while the district police had failed to keep a check on the crime rate, the rate of investigation had dropped to a dismal 40 percent.
Indicting the State Police Department for the "alarming" law and order situation in Jammu, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has said the crime rate in the district is increasing but there is a drastic fall in investigation rate of such cases.
While the crime rate in the district increased from 3,516 in 2007 to 4,158 during 2011, the rate of investigation is only 40 p...

| | | | On first day of Darbar, CM contradicts three of his own statements | | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 6: On his first day in office after the Darbar move, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made three sweeping statements, all to contradict his own assertions of the past.
No deadline on withdrawal of AFSPA, no increase in the LPG cap for the State and no individual security to the Panches and Sarpanches. Nobody needs to press his/her memory to discover that the Chief Minister has only contradicted what he said in the recent past.
On ASFPA, perhaps his quote is still running on his twitter site where he said last year that AFSPA would be revoked from some areas within 'the next few days'. For enhancement on the LPG cap for J&K, the Chief Minister had said J&K especi...
| | | | At Hiranagar Azad advocates 'reservation' for women | | In Jammu presents himself completely in 'non political mode' 'Shall talk about politics next week…..' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu/ Hiranagar, Nov 6: On a whirlwind tour of Jammu once again Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad attended a couple of functions, marking and making his presence conspicuous amidst politicians, lawyers, prominent citizens besides attending a Women's Cooperative Conference. All the functions were on non political platforms which is why he conveniently desisted from making any political statement. In the Hiranagar Women's conference, however, the Congress stalwart strongly advocated reservation for women at all levels in the institution of Panchayats.

| | | | Omar does political somersault but says no flip-flops | | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 6: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah does political somersault but has the temerity to public say that there have been no flip-flops.
Omar Abdullah on the opening of the Darbar move said that no deadline has been fixed for the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. He said he has fruitful discussion with the Home Minister.
Exactly an year before, just few days before the opening of the Darbar in Jammu, addressing a police function in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah had said that AFSPA will go away for some areas before the Darbar move.
He not only made this statement but in an interview to private TV channel had said that he has fixed the deadline as the...
| | | | Has CM finally raised his hands? | | AFSPA | | | Rustam
JAMMU, Nov 6: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah yesterday made a significant statement on the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). What was that statement? Addressing media persons after reopening of the Durbar offices at Civil Secretariat in the State's winter capital, Jammu, he, among other things, said: "AFSPA will go. But when, I cannot tell, for no deadline has been set at this stage".
Read the statement carefully and see for yourself the difference between what he said this year and last year. Last year, he had announced in Srinagar that he will revoke AFSPA before the Durbar move offices reopened In Jammu. He had made this statement unilaterally. The JKPCC president Saif-ud-...
